Druk Tsegyal was born in the Amdo region of Tibet. After finishing year 12 he escaped to Tibet, arriving in India in 2001. At the time he was uncertain about why he undertook the arduous, month and a half long, journey across the Himalayas. But he said, " once in India, under the magnanimous grace of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama I was fortunate enough to study traditional Tibetan Thangka Painting."
After completing his study in Thangka painting Druk Tsegyal was employed by Contemporary Art Section of the Norbulingka Institute, he worked there for two years. In 2007 he moved to McLeod Ganj and began to compose modern art paintings in his home. Currently Druk Tsegyal works for a Tibetan NGO, but he says “As of now I am more into where my heart is---painting modern art”.
